The popcorn beach has been given its own hashtag on Instagram with #PopCornBeach and has also attracted the Spanish and foreign press with articles in the Daily Mail and attention on Fox News in the United States.

Where they come from -
These calcareous algae almost certainly come from the bottom of the so-called 'estrecho de Bocaina' that separates Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. There is a forest of rhodolites that guarantees the fishing reserves of Majanicho and the coast of the municipality of La Oliva in general.

Did you know that the lighthouse is considered the closest point in the Canary Islands to Africa, 97 km to the east.

Not only did it function as a maritime light, but it was also historically used as an aerial beacon. Planes from Gando airport were sent through the lighthouse towards the Spanish Sahara, including those used in the Ifni conflict (The Forgotten War in 1957).
