Full Day Hiking Trail Sete Cidades and Ferraria
Explore the charms of nature and its diversity of landscapes on an exciting trail in Sete Cidades, one of the main tourist attractions on São Miguel island. Discover the panoramic views and several lakes accessible throughout the hike.
With the local guide, learn about the stories and legends of the volcanoes and lakes. During the walk, enjoy the sounds of nature and discover the fauna and flora of this area. Finish the day with relaxing thermal baths in the Atlantic Ocean in the natural pools of Ferraria.
ItineraryExplore the Sete Cidades volcanic complex, located in São Miguel. Start the trail passing through a green area mixed with rocky soils. Climb to one of the highest points of Sete Cidades, from where you can see the centre of the island and its lakes.
Enjoy the vast pastures on the south coast and its paths lined with hydrangeas. Continue through a cryptomeria forest towards the Lagoa das Empadadas. Visit Lagoa do Canário.
Walk towards an emblematic viewpoints of São Miguel, the Grota do Inferno viewpoint. Visit the Vista de Rei viewpoint, overlooking the blue and the green lakes, where you can see the abandoned “Monte Palace” hotel.
Enjoy a picnic lunch and continue by van towards the Escalvado viewpoint to see the parish of Mosteiros and the Ponta da Ferraria. Visit the local viewpoint which provide a panoramic view of the entire lava platform including the Ferraria Lighthouse.
Finish the day with thermal baths in Ferraria.
Note: Pay attention to the tide conditions, as high tide can reduce the water temperature while low tide can make the waters excessively hot. Bearing this in mind, the exact itinerary may change according to the weather forecast and tide predictions.
