  • 2-Day Tour: Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu by Train

    Itinerary

    Day 1: From Cusco

Stop At: Pisac Market, Central Plaza, Pisac Peru
Meet our guide between 7:35 to 7:45am in the lobby of your Cusco hotel and travel through the mountains to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Relax and take in the spectacular views along the drive, including the World Heritage-listed Saqsaywaman citadel and Tambomachay, a historic series of aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls. The winding road descends 1,500 feet (457 meters) and travels alongside the sacred Urubamba River. Arrive at the village of Pisac, where you can visit the lively traditional market and perhaps pick up some souvenirs. Then continue to Pisac's Incan ruins, which lie atop a hill with stunning views over the valley. Stroll around the ancient temples, altars, baths, water fountains, and marvel at the inti watana, a volcanic outcrop carved known as a "hitching post for the sun."
    Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Archaeological Park Ollantaytambo, Ollantaytambo 08676 Peru
Climb back into your vehicle for the 40-minute journey to Urubamba, where you can enjoy a buffet lunch (own expense) before continuing on to the town of Ollantaytambo, another Inca archaeological site. Stroll around the temples, terraces, and storehouses under the watchful gaze of the Inca god Wiracocha, whose image is carved into Pinkuylluna Mountain overlooking Ollantaytambo. Later, board the train to Aguas Calientes, or Machu Picchu Town. On arrival, you will be collected from the station and taken to your 3-star hotel, where your guide will meet you for a short briefing ahead of your tour of Machu Picchu the following day. * Enjoy a private Cusco city tour (optional, if you chose it instead of Sacred valley tour on day 1) before taking the train to Aguas Calientes. Visit Saccsayhuaman, Qenqo, Pucapucara, Tambomachay, The Cathedral of Cusco, and the Koricacha. Later, transfer to Ollantaytambo and take the train to Aguas Calientes.
    Duration: 4 hours

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Overnight at 3-star hotel Casa Andina Classic or Similar

Day 2: Machu Picchu - Cusco

Stop At: Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu Peru
After a restful night's sleep and an early breakfast, board a bus to Machu Picchu with your guide, arriving in time for sunrise. Head to Huayna Picchu (own cost, need to be requested in advance), the mountain which rises over Machu Picchu, and follow the steep path to the summit for incredible views of the ancient city of the Incas below. You can complete this trek on your own, without a guide, in around 2-hours. Return to Machu Picchu and re-join your guide for a 2-hour tour of this 15th-century Inca citadel, visiting the main plaza, the circular tower, the sacred solar clock, the royal quarters, the Temple of Three Windows, and various cemeteries. Afterwards, you will have some free time to relax and soak up the views before taking the bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (at own cost) and perhaps soothe your muscles with a dip in the hot springs (own cost). In the afternoon, take the train back to Ollantaytambo where tour driver will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Cusco.

I had a great time on this tour. Both guides were knowledgeable and informative, and the pace worked really well for me. I have chronic foot pain that makes it difficult to be on my feet for long periods, and there was plenty of time on the bus in between locations on the Sacred Valley tour to rest. All the bus and train tickets were neatly organized for me and the directions were very clear. Highly recommended!

Our trip was very well organised. Contact throughout via WhatsApp was very helpful, as was the face to face briefing the evening before when we were given a clear itinerary and all relevant tickets. Punctual pickup on the day. Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu were incredible. Our guide Fabricio, whose English was very good, was excellent. His friendly enthusiasm and knowledge made the visits very informative and enjoyable. Our experience could only be improved by maybe upgrading the overnight hotel from three to four star if you want to pay the extra for one night and a bit more comfort. Overall we were more than happy with all the arrangements and our trip.

This tour was great - and was a great value. Fabrizio was wonderful as our guide at the Sacred Valley and we were well informed and well taken care of. The train ride was a highlight. Our three-star hotel in Aguas Calientes was a really pleasant surprise. We didn't know what to expect, but we were comfortable and had a nice (if short) night there. Our Macchu Picchu guide, José Luis was flexible and we arranged to hike to Sun Gate by ourselves, then meet him for our guided tour of Macchu Picchu. It was the perfect trip for us. We took great pictures and made great memories.

Awesome quick tour of the sacred valley and Machu Picchu. I feel like I saw more than some friends on a different tour on the same days. They were long days. Between the 2 days I climbed about 150 flights of stairs according to my tracker. And as a solo woman, this tour was good. A rep came to walk me through it the night before at my hotel. All went smoothly. Peru is amazing!

This was a great 2 day tour. There is a fair amount of walking involved and changing elevations. Be prepared to awake very early to arrive at Machu Picchu for sunrise. There is a bit of a que in the morning for for the bus up, but it moved fairly fast. The guides were informative and I met some great people on the trip.

Excellent tour. It is a lot of moving parts but everything went perfectly! Elvis our guide for Day 1 — was extremely knowledgeable. I agree with previous reviews about hotel in Machu Picchu — it’s not the best (our room had a strange smell) but we were there for such a short time not a big deal.

We had an excellent guide named Percy for the Sacred Valley portion. He was raised in the area and was able to make things come alive for us. It was fascinating. The tour is very rushed, which isnt the tours fault. Theres a lot of territory to cover and only so much time. It would have been nice to be able to explore Otallyantambo and Pisac more, but we only really had about a half hour of free time in each town. We stopped and had a nice buffet lunch which was a bit on the pricey side I think it was close to20 US, but it was good.

I missed the Machu Picchu tour and went up alone later, so I cant comment on the tour guide for that portion.

The bus ride from Aguascalientes to Machu Picchu is roughly a half hour, but it is a roller coaster. If you have motion sickness issues, be prepared. Bring pocket change, the bathrooms are pay to play. I think the rate was 2 soles. Also, you can stash your bag for three soles and pick it up at the end of the trip.

The train ride is bumpy, but the cars were comfortable other than that. Its exactly what I expected.

This was a great experience. We took this tour in May 2018. Our guide picked us up at our hotel in Cusco right on time. It was a private tour, with the guide and the driver, and we visited a few places in sacred valley before reaching Pisac. We got a well guided tour of the Pisac ruins, visited the Pisac market, drove through the scenic sacred valley, and at the end visited the ruins at Ollantaytambo. Our guide left us at the entrance to the train station, from where we caught the vista dome train to Aguas Calientes. When we reached AC, there was a person at the station waiting for us with our name, and accompanied us to our hotel. He explained to us in detail about the next days activities. Next day early morning we walked to the bus stop and met our Machu Picchu guide, who accompanied us on the bus and then gave us a wonderful guided tour of Machu Picchu. Getting back to AC and then to Ollantaytambo was a breeze, and there was another driver waiting for us at the station, who dropped us at out hotel in Cusco. Overall a great tour that I will remember for a long time. I highly recommend this tour.

The tour operators were on top of their game! We had a member of the team meet us the evening before both days 1 and 2 to let us know what to expect for the next day. Everything went smoothly and according to the itinerary. We were brought directly to the train station and had people waiting with a sign with our names when we arrived at our destinations for easy transportation. Our tour guides were great and professional. We went with the standard option for the train and were happy with our decision. We did not feel the need to upgrade the train as it was clean and comfortable. However, if you can afford to upgrade the hotel I would strongly recommend it. Even though it was close to the train/buses, the room was incredibly dirty and smelly. Not the tour operator's fault though. Still would highly recommend this trip.

Got all that was promised. Guides very good. Sacred Valley tour offered very good sample of important sites. Machu Picchu tour/ guide very comprehensive. Only glitch was a lack of meeting train in Aguas Calientes which we solved by asking locals for directions. Hotel/ breakfast was just ok.

Not one glitch or hiccup - everything was executed perfectly. Both guides, Ricardo and Carlos were articulate, personable and went above and beyond our expectations. This was one of the best tours my wife and I ever experienced. The bus from Cusco to Ollantaytambo was new and our driver was great - all connections were perfect. The room in the hotel in Aguas Calientes was tiny - but for 1 night it was suitable. I would highly recommend this tour.

It was an absolutely amazing experience. Now we know much about Inca history and culture.

Our tour moderator Fredy picked us up from airport and provided details for the upcoming trip. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. At the end of the whole tour, he also dropped us up at the airport.

Our first day Sacred Valley tour guide was Ceser. Very charming, knowledgeable and an expert guide. We started our journey early in the morning from Cusco by a mini bus. Our guide told us different stories about Peruvian history, culture, food. At first they took us to a small village type of place where we saw different Alpaca, Llama and Vicunas. They also showed us how inca people made and colored thread from Alpaca wool. We absolutely loved that place. Next stop was Pisac. Inca village and at the end of the day they took us to Ollantaytambo. From there we took the Inca train to the Machu Picchu town Aguas Calientes. The scenic train ride was comfortable. In Aguas Calientes, they took us a small hotel very near to the train station. The room was small but ok for one night stand. Next morning after breakfast our Machhu Pichhu guide Gary arrived in our hotel and took us to bus stop. Bus wait time as around 30 mins. In Machu Pichu Gary explained us quite nicely about the histories and mysteries. It was a half day tour, our guide left around 12 pm then we took bus to Aguas Calientes, then in the afternoon we took Inca Rail to Ollantaytamboo. In Ollantaytamboo, a driver picked us up and took us to Cusco city. That journey was very scenic and the driver made it absolutely memorable. He stopped at different viewpoints and tried hard to explain us the name of the mountains and village though he dont know English at all. But somehow he made us understood. He stopped the car in some stunning places and we shot some Instagram worthy snaps. This part of the trip was not in our schedule. The driver took the initiative to saw us the raw beauty of Peru. We are really really grateful to him for those unforgettable memories.

We had excellent guides and drivers. Our guides were responsive and flexible when we wanted to spend more time at a particular site. Their knowledge of Inca history and culture enhanced the experience. The tour was originally a small group but ended up being a private tour for just the two of us. Everything was well organized with just enough unscheduled time for us to do some exploring on our own. It could not have been better.
