  • Kumano Kodo, Mie: 3 Day Ise-ji Trail & Kumano Sanzan Tour

A three day guided tour starting at Ikkokutoge, part of the Kumano Kodo Ise-ji Trail, and ending at Kumano Sanzan. The first day of the tour focuses on a coastal stretch of the World Heritage Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail, followed by a tour of Sugari fisherman’s town and a walk along Onigajo beach, ending the day with an onsen hot spring experience. The second day starts at Hananoiwaya Shrine, before taking a mountain hike along the pilgrimage trail from Fuden Toge, as well as visiting the one thousand paddy rice terraces of Maruyama Senmaida. The day ends with a relaxing dip in a hot spring. The final day begins at Kumano Hongu Taisha, home of Japan’s largest torii gate, before heading to Nachi Taisha Shrine with a backdrop of Nachi Falls, ending with a trip to an onsen hot spring bath.

Day 1: Kumano Kodo - Kumano Kodo Ise-ji Coastal Walking Tour (Lunch & DInner included)

The tour will meet at Ise-shi Station at 8am and will take a private coach to Ikkokutoge, where we will embark on a course that follows the Ikkoku Pass, Hirakata Pass and Kumagaya-michi, while enjoying the views of the Kumano Sea with its many islands. After lunch, we head to Owase. Here we explore by foot the traditional fishing village of Sugari, before continuing along the coast to Kumano’s Onigajo and taking a dip in an onsen hot spring bath followed by dinner.

Day 2: Kumano Kodo - Kumano Kodo Ise-ji Mountain Walking Tour (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included)

On the second day, we will head to the shrine where the deities of Izanami and Kagutsuchi are enshrined. We will then hike a part of the Ise-ji trail, the Fuden Toge Pass, which passes through serene cedar forests, where you'll discover beautiful cooling countryside and the surrounding mountains. We continue along the moss-covered stone path toward our goal of Maruyama Senmaida – said to be the home of Japan's best rice terraces. Finally we take a relaxing dip in a local hot spring bath before dinner.

Day 3: Kumano Sanzan - Shrine & Nature Walking Tour (Breakfast & Lunch included)

On the final day, we begin by heading to Kumano Hongu Taisha, before going to Oyunohara where we come across Japan's largest torii gate. Its sheer scale towers over the surrounding countryside. At the nearby Kamikura Shrine you'll discover the sacred giant rock, Gotobiki-iwa, located on the mountaintop. After lunch we will explore Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine and Nachi Falls, before taking a relaxing dip in an onsen hot spring. The tour will end back at Ise-shi Station at around 8:30pm.
