The Basilica of Saint-Sernin is an early Romanesque church in Toulouse. Built between the years 1060 and 1120 in a time when the city was capital of the county of Toulouse, it is famous for its extensive use of carved stone. The church is the seat of the Diocese of Saint-Sernin.
The basilica was originally consecrated by Archbishop Alfonso V of Toulouse in 1060, on the site where a chapel had been built on the side of a hill in honour to Saint Sernin (a bishop who died around 580). A crypt dug under the church contains his remains and those two other early bishops, as well as two other bishops from the 7th century.
