Considered a sacred peak to practitioners of four different faiths, Mt Kailash has been a pilgrimage destination for more than 1,700 years, drawing devotees who come to the mountain for an arduous
kora, a spiritually inspired walk around a holy site. Buddhist, Hindu and Jain pilgrims follow a clockwise circuit around the mountain, while people of the Bon faith (the ancient indigenous religion of Tibet) go counterclockwise.
This 3-day trek around Mt Kailash requires excellent physical health, training and time beforehand to adjust to the high altitude; this tour is designed for very adventurous travelers who are willing to rough it with simple lodging during the trek. Support includes an experienced private guide and yaks and their handlers who manage your gear.
Before the trek, your Tibet experience starts in Lhasa, where you can acclimate to the altitude while seeing some of Tibet's most iconic monuments with your private guide, who provides a wealth of information about Tibetan history, culture, spirituality and wilderness throughout the entire tour.
You'll stay at 4-star hotels in Lhasa and Shigatse, local hotels in Lhatse and Saga, and basic guesthouses around Mt Kailash. Breakfast is included every morning; other meals are on your own so you have the flexibility to choose what to eat; your guide can provide recommendations for where to purchase other meals.
