Hua Hum Day Trip and Lanin National Park
From San Martin de los Andes, discover the wonders of the Argentine Patagonia as you make your way west to the border with Chile. Your scenic drive first takes you through Lanín National Park into the Pampa de Trompul, part of a local indigenous Mapuche community’s territory. Pass by the Piedra de Trompul, or ‘Chief’s stone’ in the Mapuche language. According to legend, strong thunder in its vicinity means rain or snow is coming. In the distance, look out for Savannah Mountain and Cerro Colorado, an extinct volcano.
Stop At: Peninsula de Yuco, San Martin de los Andes Argentina
We will reach the beaches of Yuco where you will have the possibility to observe the Andean-Patagonian forest of pellin, oak and coihue woods.

Stop At: Lago Nonthué, Neuquen, Argentina
Returning along route 48, we will see the junction of lakes Lácar and Nonthué.

Stop At: Muelle Hua Hum, Neuquen, Argentina
We arrive at the border with Chile, where there are some small constructions from the beginning of the century, whose buildings are used by institutions such as Customs, Gendarmeria, there is also a house-museum of an old settler family, whose main income was the exploitation of wood, until the creation of National Parks.

Stop At: Cascada Chachin - Hua Hum, Ruta provincial 48, San Martin de los Andes Argentina
Then, we will cross the Hua Hum river to reach a resting place inside the national park and starting point for a nice and quiet walk to the Chachín waterfall, where we will have the possibility to walk inside this colourful vegetation formed by ferns, quivers, nalcas, and millenary trees.
Thanks to this easygoing 30-minute hike up to Chachin Waterfall, admire from a balcony, the 65-foot (20-meter) cascade roaring down into a clear green pool of water.
