Longji Mountain, Ping'an Village, Heping Country, Longsheng County 541701 China
You will meet your guide and driver for the day at 08.00 in the lobby of your Guilin hotel and transfer by air-conditioned car to Longsheng Rice Terraces, a distance of around 108 kms and about 2-3 hours driving from the city center.
Leaving the city center you will drive through the picturesque rural scenery that surrounds Guilin as you head toward Longshen County.
You start the visit at Ping’an Village, home to the Zhuang Minority who still retain their traditional dress and have cultivated rice on the terraces surrounding the village for centuries. The village itself maintains its traditional style of building construction, with the wooden structures built of three stories with a high access to keep out snakes and other nasty creatures.
You will have time to look around the small village of Ping’an and also to take the easy walk up to two viewpoints; the first called Nine Dragons and Five Tigers and the second which is called Seven Stars with Moon. From these two vantage points you have a spectacular view of the village and surrounding terraces. The name Longji means ‘Dragons Back Mountain’. It is said that when the rice terraces are full of water the sun shining on them looks like the scales on the back of a dragon, whilst the summit of the surrounding mountain range resembles the backbone of the dragon. From the top of the mountain visitors can see the backbone snaking away into the distance.
Your walk from Ping’an Village up to the first viewpoint and across the hills to the second viewpoint then back down again to Ping’an village takes around 2 hours depending on your personal fitness and how much you stop for photographs. You can also take the walk in the opposite direction which is a slightly easier route.
On the way back to Guilin, if time permits you will have a visit to Sanjie Liu tea plantation(It is closed from Dec. to Feb). The plantation covers 187 hectares. Most of the tea production here is undertaken with traditional hand-manufacture and these naturally produced teas are very popular at home and abroad. Walk in the green and flourishing tea plantation, learn how to make tea and enjoy a tea tasting ceremony. From the tea plantation you continue your journey back to Guilin where your tour ends on arrival at your hotel.
