Together we'll journey through the history, style, and craftsmanship of structures throughout the old city while pausing to take high resolution portraits of you and your party. Beginning at the eastern city gate we’ll travel from remnants of the city walls to Roman ruins to Gothic grotesques to Neoclassical facades as your guide paints the progression of Regensburg through the centuries with historical narratives, archaic maps, and historiography.

Along the way you’ll get familiar with your fellow guests and we might bump into some local friends. You’ll walk away with knowledge on the construction, design, and purpose of Altstadt architecture throughout the ages. By the end of your tour you’ll never look at architecture the same way anywhere in the world for the rest of your life!

We will dive into the purpose and form of Gothic military architecture and the purpose of Ostentör throughout Regensburg’s history. This location will serve as the base for understanding the evolution of the Romesque into the Gothic and a background into Regensburg’s history as an independent city in charge of its own defense.

Stop At: Legionslagermauer, Dachaupaltz, 93047, Regensburg, Bavaria Germany

The remnants of the largest Roman fortification north of the Alps reveal to travelers the strength and construction of Roman outposts. Travelers will learn how the Romans moved such colossal structures, what gave them their strength, and how Castra Regina was structured in old times.

St Peter’s Cathedral will give travelers a deeper understanding of the High Gothic period’s technical and decorative advancements during the most prolific cathedral building period in history. By examining its exterior and applying what was learned at Ostentör, travelers will gain insight into the challenges behind creating such a structure and what makes it truly a marvel even today.

Travelers will learn how the Roman Army constructed such a massive fort without modern equipment and how Castra Regina’s size and strength made it a unique feature to Bavaria for centuries.

The Old Town Hall offers a glimpse into the secular gothic enhanced by traveler's previous experience at the old gate and St Peter's. Here, travelers will practice their knowledge of the High Gothic by studying the Old Town Hall structure with the help of the guide.

Travelers will learn about the evolution of Haidplatz through the ages and how it served the ever changing population of Regensburg. Additionally, travelers will understand why patrician towers make Regensburg unique and how their construction mirrors the style and purpose builds upon what they learned about previous structures.

Travelers will pass the old residence of Johannes Kepler, a grandfather of astronomy, and learn about his stint in Regensburg on his journey to understand the cosmos.

Stop At: Old Stone Bridge, Steinerne Brucke, 93059, Regensburg, Bavaria Germany

The Stone Bridge tells the history of the city from its heyday in the 11th century to the modern day as a tourist town. As we discuss the implications of the Stone Bridge’s construction we’ll also discuss its ornamentation through history and the legend of the Bruckmandl who sits atop its midway point.
