Itinerary

Day 1: Nicosia and West Coast

Stop At: Buyuk Han, Nicosia Cyprus
Buyuk Han (The Great Inn) is one of the most important architectural works of the Ottoman period. The 16th-century Great Inn is located in the traditional market centre within the City Walls of Nicosia and is the largest inn of the island. It is one of two remaining inns in the whole Cyprus that still retain its original shape and appearance.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Selimiye Mosque, Nicosia Cyprus
Selimiye Mosque, historically known as Cathedral of Saint Sophia, is a former Roman Catholic cathedral converted into a mosque by Ottomans. It is the largest and oldest surviving Gothic church in Cyprus which makes it North Nicosia's most prominent landmark. Its fascinating history stretches back to the 13th-century. In the style of architecture, St. Sophia resembles the famous medieval cathedrals of France.

Stop At: Saint Mamas Church and Icon Museum, Guzelyurt Cyprus
Saint Mamas was a Christian saint who lived in the 12th century and dedicated to island's patron saint of tax avoiders. It is said that there are 14 churches dedicated to him in Cyprus. The St. Mamas Church dates back to the 18th century. Its entrance and columns of the nave survive from an earlier Gothic church built by the Lusignans on the remains of a Byzantine church. Inside the church, many valuable historical artifacts are displayed, including the Mamas sacrophage. The ground floor of the museum displays a collection of stuffed animals native to Cyprus. The upper floors of the museum houses a collection ranging from prehistoric age of Cyprus to the Byzantine period.

Stop At: Soli Ruinen, Gemikonagi, Lefke Cyprus
Soli is an ancient settlement, known one of the ten ancient kingdoms of Cyprus. Its history can be dated back to the 11th century BC and was one of the most important kingdoms of Cyprus because of its port facilities and fertile soil. The Basilica with its mosaics, dating back to the 4th century, was one of the first churches to be built on the island.

Stop At: Palace of Vouni, West of Gemikonagi 9 km, Lefke 99790 Cyprus
The Vouni Palace was constructed in the 5th century BC by the Persians to keep the settlements supporting the Soli under control. The palace was built on a steep hill at an altitude of 250 meters from the sea. Even though there is not much remains from the palace today, the view of the bay from the hill is spectacular.

Day 2: Kyrenia

Stop At: Saint Hilarion Castle, West of the Main Kyrenia-Nicosia Highway,, Kyrenia Cyprus
Saint Hilarion Castle is one of the three magnificient castles in the Kyrenia Mountains, by far the most popular and the best preserved. With walls and towers that appear to sprout out of the rocks almost randomly, it is a fairly-tale rumoured to be used by Walt Disney as inspiration for the castle in ‘’Snow White and Seven Dwarfs’’. The highest point is about 732m above sea level and the view is marvellous.

Stop At: Bellapais Monastery, Bellapais Village, Kyrenia Cyprus
The 13th-century Bellapais Monastery is regarded as a masterpiece of Gothic art in Cyprus. Set in the foothills of the Kyrenia Mountains in the beautiful hillside village of Bellapais. As a former home of British writer Lawrence Durrell, the village and the monastery became famous with his book ''Bitter lemons of Cyprus''.

Stop At: Kyrenia Castle, Kupdemir Sk, Kyrenia 99300 Cyprus
Kyrenia Castle lies at the north east of Kyrenia dominating the entry of the old harbour, is the best preserved castle on the island. It is first built in the 7th century by Byzantines against Arab raids. Its surrounding walls expanded in the 16th-century by the Venetians over a previously existing Crusader fortification. Within its walls lies a twelfth-century chapel showing reused late Roman capitals, and the Shipwreck Museum.

Stop At: Ancient Shipwreck Museum, Inside Kyrenia Castle, Kyrenia Cyprus
Located within Kyrenia Castle, the Shipwreck Museum displays 2,300-year-old trading vessel, together with its complete cargo. It is the oldest ship yet recovered from seabed anywhere.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Kyrenia Harbour, Kyrenia Cyprus
The picturesque harbour is the jewel of Kyrenia where one can breath the history of the city and enjoy the harbours relaxing atmosphere.

Day 3: Karpaz and Famagusta

Stop At: Dipkarpaz, Dipkarpaz, Famagusta District
The Dipkarpaz village is the gateway to North Cyprus’ north east peninsula and resembles the Mediterranean of old, and is one of the intact parts of Cyprus. It is peninsula's largest and most remote village, where Turkish and Greek Cypriot still lives side by side just as they have done for hundred years. A mosque sits next to an Orthodox Church overlooking the main square.

Stop At: Dipkarpaz Milli Parki - Karpaz National Park Wild Donkey Protection Area, Karpaz Anayolu, Famagusta Cyprus
The region is designated as a Protected Natural and Archaeological Site since 1995 and offering its visitors an opportunity to explore the untouched nature of Cyprus, abundance of birds, wild flowers and rich marine life. The most famous inhabitants are the wild donkeys.

Stop At: Golden Beach, Dipkarpaz Cyprus
It is a kilometres long beach, renowned for its golden sands and crystal blue waters, situated at the heart of the unspoiled nature of Karpaz peninsula.

Stop At: Apostolos Andreas Monastery, Karpaz Anayolu, Dipkarpaz 99890
The monastery is one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Cyprus, has hosted pilgrims from all over the island for centuries. Pilgrims whom seeking cures for their afflictions believed to healing effect of the monastery's spring. The Apostolos Andreas Monastery is situated almost at the end of the Karpaz peninsula. It is named after St Andrew, who was a follower of John the Baptist, and was the first to be called by Jesus Christ to spread Christianity. It is a place of reverence both for Turkish and Greek Cypriots.

Stop At: Salamis Ancient City, Yeni Boğaziçi 99680
Salamis was the capital of Cyprus as far back as 1100 B.C. Located on the eastern coast of the island of Cyprus, it was a commercial hub that offered a rich and vibrant city life to its inhabitants. It have been ruled by various dominant powers over the course of its history, including Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, and Romans. At one point during the Roman period, Salamis was the largest city in Cyprus, where more than 150.000 people used to live in. Today the city offers its visitors a magnificent sites to visit ranging from Roman theatre and the Gymnasium with thermal baths and a glimpse into the history of the island.

Stop At: St Barnabas Monastery and Icon Museum, Salamis-Famagusta Road, Famagusta Cyprus
The site consists of a church, now serving as an icon museum housing a stunning collection of Cypriot artefacts. The monastery hosts also small but interesting archaeological museum with complete pottery pieces from various eras from 4000BC onwards.

Stop At: Famagusta Walled City, Hisar Yolu, Famagusta 99450 Cyprus
The old city of Famagusta is surrounded by the historical walls and is often described as an open air museum with its famous St. Nicholas Cathedral along with many other historical monuments.

Stop At: Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque, Mahmut Celaleddin Sokak, Famagusta Cyprus
The 14th-century Gothic Cathedral of St. Nicholas, which has since been turned into a mosque named Lala Mustafa Camii, is the most important monument in Famagusta to visit.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Ghost Town Famagusta, Famagusta Cyprus
Varosa, the booming centre of tourism with its endless beaches and luxury resorts, abondened after the Turkish forces has taken control of the part of the Island in 1974. Now it stands as a ghost town and as the symbol of the Islands recent political history.
