Private Ho Chi Minh City Shore Excursion from Phu My Port or Any Cruise Port
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is the business and financial hub of Vietnam, with a prominent history going back hundreds of years. The French conquered Saigon, as it was then known, in 1859, and made it the capital of Cochin China in 1862, which resulted in numerous elegant architecture and broad boulevards that are still present to this day. At the peak of the Vietnam War in 1969, the city had 4.5 million inhabitants who were all evacuated when Saigon and the rest of the South fell to North Vietnam in 1975.
Today Ho Chi Minh City is a popular tourist destination due to its fascinating culture, classic French architecture, and sleek skyscrapers as well as ornate temples and pagodas. The city is also filled with rooftop bars that overlook Saigon and beyond, while fantastic restaurants offer a combination of French, Chinese and of course local Vietnamese cuisine.
Departing from Phu My Port (or Cai Mep Port) to Ho Chi Minh City to visit the War Remnants Museum which originally opened in September 1975. It displays old military equipment and other related items from the Vietnam War. Afterward, continue to see the Reunification Palace, formerly known as the Presidential Palace. The palace symbolizes the end of the Vietnam War when a North Vietnamese army tank went through its gates. Then take a short stroll to see Notre Dame Cathedral and the General Post Office. Both are beautiful examples of architecture from the French colonial period.
Visit a traditional coffee shop to enjoy one of the most famous coffee in Vietnam: Cafe Sua Da (Coffee with condensed-milk).
After that depart to Chinatown, Cho Lon (Binh Tay) market, not only seeing the locals bartering, purchasing and selling merchandises at the market but also seeing a rich and diverse Chinese culture that is subtle yet distinctive from other parts of the city.
Transfer back to District 1 for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing on to shop at Ben Thanh Market.
After shopping, if we have time, we will travel along the Saigon Riverside to overview Nha Rong wharf where Ho Chi Minh President first left Vietnam in 1911. Visit Ngoc Hoang Temple also known as the Tortoise Pagoda, this figurine-filled place of worship is considered by many to be Saigon’s finest.
