Bedouin Desert 4x4 Tour Wadi Rum, 3-4 hours or Full day - with Hiking & Trekking

Our guides belong to the Bedouin tribes of Wadi Rum and live in the protected area so they know the desert best and you will enjoy an unforgettable authentic experience. Every tour is different and unique, cause we might meet a Bedouin family on the way and join them to get some insights of the life of locals. Maybe we will taste camel milk cause there arrived a new camel baby and we can offer you fresh milk. Sometimes we will join some Bedouins who brought the traditional instruments and perform some Bedouin songs.

Our Bedouin guides can bring you to unique hidden areas where tourists normally don’t go. Normally we plan the 4-hours tour to stop at a place to enjoy the sunset. If this is not possible we add some extra stops.

Our guides take picture for you if you want and they can offer you a fresh cooked meal (extra). Just ask everything you want to know about their life and the desert!

Stop At: Lawrence's House, Wadi Rum Village, Wadi Rum Jordan

Lawrence’s House in Wadi Rum is called so because TE Lawrence reportedly slept here during his time in the desert. But actually the place has a much older history than its namesake. The British general who united Arab tribes to fight against the Ottoman Empire would have sheltered in this structure around 1917. But the house itself was erected on top of a pre-existing structure built by Nabataeans more than two thousand years ago. The structure was used as a station for passing caravans. As such, the Bedouin people have a different name for this place which translates as “The Small Palace”. Whichever name you use, it is clearly a site steeped in history that continues to fascinate people to this day.
Rising behind the house, a cliff stands dotted with towers of small stones precariously balanced one atop the other. In past times, these structures were used as waymarkers, built by Bedouins to show the safest route along the mountain.

Stop At: Lawrence's Spring, Wadi Rum Jordan

Ain Shalaaleh is a beautiful and tranquil place with a little pool shaded by ferns and small trees. Freshwater runs from the mountain’s inside into a pool always. It is so lustful and so green, a real oasis. This spring is the spring that Lawrence of Arabia is writing about in chapter 63 of his book the ‘Seven Pillars of Wisdom’. It is the spot where the troops of Lawrence and Faisal watered their camels before the pivotal attack on the Aqaba Fort during the Arab Revolt. Imagine Lawrence of Arabia and Faisal preparing for the attack while you are there. Pay attention to the many inscriptions that are the silent witnesses of more ancient times. Enjoy the abundance of life around here and watch across Rum valley to enjoy the stunning views.

Stop At: Jebel Khazali, Wadi Rum Jordan

Jebel Khazali, a peak situated in the center of Wadi Rum Protected Area opens up in a narrow fissure of about 100 m length. Its inner walls are covered with Thamudic, Nabatean, and Islamic inscriptions, as well petroglyphs depicting humans and animals. Remarkable are the soles of feet petroglyphs, which probably had religious significance. In 1932 the French epigraphist Savignac noted the engravings in the cleft and published some of them in 1934.

The petroglyphs and inscriptions of Khazali Siq form an impressive collection being one of the major tourist attractions in Wadi Rum. At the end of the canyon, there are several man-made rock-cut basins for water collection.

Stop At: Lawrence's Spring, Wadi Rum Jordan

This spring, on the edge of the open sands, is a regular stop on the 4WD circuit. Alternatively, it can be reached on a soft sand hike from the Rest House; the walk takes about 1½ hours return. Look for a white water tank at the opening of Wadi Shallalah. After the tank, a path climbs the hill to the spring.

The spring was named in honour of Lawrence’s evocative description in the Seven Pillars of Wisdom: 'In front of us a path, pale with use, zigzagged up the cliff-plinth…From between [the] trees, in hidden crannies of the rock, issued strange cries; the echoes, turned into music, of the voices of the Arabs watering camels at the springs which there flowed out three hundred feet above ground'.

Together with other springs in the area, this natural water spout that tumbles into a leafy ‘paradise just five feet square’ allowed Rum to become an important waterhole for caravans travelling between Syria and Arabia.
