On Day 2, take a full 360-degree tour around beautiful Van Lake, see the Muradiye Waterfall, see the cemetery of Ahlat, and visit the Cat Museum of Van.

On Day 3, see Van Museum, see the Castle of Van, take a boat tour on Van Lake to Akdamar Island, and see The Church of the Holy Cross.

Itinerary

Day 1: Van Surroundings

Stop At: Hosap Castle (Hosap Kalesi), Merkez Gurpinar Merkez, Gurpinar, Van Turkiye
This castle stands on the grounds of an ancient Urartian Fortress. It was built in 1643 by Sari Suleiman, the ruler of the Mahmudi, who was subordinate to the Ottomans. Its name comes from the Hosap stream around it.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Ancient Urartian site of Cavustepe (Sardurihinilli), 25 kms from Van on the Hakkari road, Van Turkiye
See Cavustepe Castle that is a site from the Kingdom of Urartu. The castle consists of upside and downside constructions. It was built between 764-734 BCE.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Yedi Kilise, Yukari Bakracli Village Van Merkez, Van Turkiye
Although it is called '7 churches', it consists of 2 groups of 5 churches, library and a bell tower. The oldest one is St. Sophia Church which was built in the 8th century. The other one is the ruins of the St. John Church. These two churches are in the first group of structures. The core of the second group of structures is the Virgin Mary Church, which was built between 1003 and 1021 AD.

Day 2: 360 Degree Van Lake

Stop At: Lake Van, Van Turkiye
Take a tour all the way around the incredible Van Lake.This is the largest lake in Turkey -- so big, in fact, the locals call it a sea.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Muradiye Selalesi, Muradiye, Van Turkiye
See this picturesque waterfall. It flows from a height of 18 m. There is a suspension bridge and a cafe in case you want to walk around or have a cup of hot Turkish tea.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Ahlat Mezar Taslari, Van Golu Kiyisi Van Gölü Kenarı, Bitlis Turkiye
In Ahlat, you'll find graves dating back over 2000 years. Important people throughout history have been buried here, and there are plenty of interesting Ottoman gravestones as well.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: House of Van Cats, Yuzuncu YIl Universitesi Van Kedisi Arastirma Merkezi Zeve Kampusu, Van Turkiye
Visit the Cat Museum of Van, which houses the area's unique and famous cats with white coats and different colored eyes.

Day 3: Van Old City

See the Van Museum and learn about the ancient civilization of Urartia (Kingdom of Urartu) and see Urartian inscriptions.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Van Castle (Van Kalesi), 5 Km From The City Center, Van Turkiye
Hike up to the impressive Castle of Van. It was founded by Urartian King Sarduri in 840-825 BCE. It requires some effort to hike up the castle with children or baby stroller. However, it offers the chance to see the whole city.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Akdamar Island, Lake Van Bitlis Van Yolu, Gevas, Van Turkiye
Take a boat tour on Van Lake to Akdamar Island. On this island, the Church of the Holy Cross will be waiting to be visited.
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Holy Cross Church, Merkez Gevas Merkez, Gevas, Van Turkiye
This church is an Armenian church located on Akdamar Island.The Cathedral is open for worship only once a year in September.
Duration: 1 hour
