Stop At: Fortress Hohensalzburg Castle, Moenchsberg 34, Salzburg 5020 Austria

In the year 1077, archbishop Gebhard had the fortress built and thus changed the Salzburg skyline forever. In the years which followed, his successors drove ongoing development of the fortress architecture. The complex acquired the appearance we recognize today under archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach in 1500. The original purpose of the fortress was to protect the principality and the archbishops from hostile attacks. In all of these years, it has never been captured by foreign troops.

From 1773 to 1787, the Mozarts lived at the so-called “Dance Master’s House”, standing on today’s Makartplatz. The spacious eight-room apartment on the first floor is now home to a museum.

Markus Sittikus, prince-archbishop of Salzburg at that time, planned an oasis of pleasure and distraction unlike anything ever seen before. This summer residence sprang up in record-setting time between 1612 and 1615. Its architect, Santino Solari, whose commissions also included Salzburg Cathedral, ended up creating one of the most magnificent Late Renaissance buildings north of the Alps. As you visit the permanent exhibition located there, you will be able to stroll through its rooms and learn more about Hellbrunn’s colorful history. The Hellbrunn Castle is also a perfect location for your wedding

Stop At: Mozart's Birthplace, Getreidegasse 9, Salzburg 5020 Austria

One certain house in the Getreidegasse always draws particular attention: No. 9, the house in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born. Salzburg’s most famous son came into this world on 27 January 1756. His family actually lived here for 26 years, from 1747 on, occupying an apartment on the third floor. With parents Leopold and Anna Maria as well as sister “Nannerl”, Mozart spend his childhood and much of his youth there. In 1773, the family moved to the house we know today as the “Mozart Residence”, standing on Makartplatz Square.

Stop At: Museum der Moderne Rupertinum, Wiener-Philharmoniker-Gasse 9, Salzburg 5020 Austria

The Museum der Moderne at the Rupertinum presents rotating exhibitions of international caliber on 700 m². This Early Baroque building in the center of the historic district is unmistakable thanks to the “Tongue Beards” of Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

With around 1200 animals and 140 different species, the former “Tiergarten Hellbrunn” promises a fascinatingly delightful experience. From pygmy mice to white rhino, all sizes and shapes of creature are represented - and from different continents. The Africa section of the zoo is particularly popular, featuring a broad Savanna-like area and a lion house. Eurasia attracts visitors with red pandas, Alpine ibex and brown bears. From the Americas, you will get to see sloths and lowland tapirs, amongst others. Australia is also represented, for example with Parma wallabies.
