Abrolhos Islands Shipwreck Air and Land Tour from Geraldton
  • Abrolhos Islands Shipwreck Air and Land Tour from Geraldton

This full day air and land tour of the Abrolhos Islands departs from Geraldton Airport at 9am daily and returns by 3.15pm. You will have the opportunity to go snorkeling over the stunning coral in Turtle Bay, take a guided nature walk around the Island, which includes bird watching and wallabi spotting and enjoy magnificent aerial views from your fixed-wing aircraft.

Before your departure, meet your pilot who will give you a talk on the Abrolhos Islands including the history and information on the fishing industry as it is today.

Depart Geraldton just after 9am, overflying the beautiful city and track for an extended scenic overfly of the three main groups of the Abrolhos Islands - The Pelseart, Easter and Wallabi groups.

En route your pilots will point out the pearl farms, the historic church on Basile Island, the brightly colored fisherman's camps, marine life including sharks, manta rays, dolphins and migratory whales(in season) and some of the shipwrecks - The Zeewijk(1727) and the famous Batavia (1629). You will also overfly Webbie Hayes' fort, the oldest European building in Australia.

After landing at East Wallabi Island it's a short stroll to the picturesque Turtle Bay where you will have morning tea. Your pilot will then take you snorkeling; this environmental measure ensures that you see the best of the marine life and coral reefs but also safeguards the fragile seagrasses and coral.

After enjoying lunch you will be taken on a guided nature walk with bird watching and wallaby spotting. Your pilot guide will ensure you see all the points of interest including the osprey's nest, sea eagle's nest and the feeding platform, lizards, crabs and spiders.

Returning to the beach there is time for another swim or beach combing or just relaxing before heading back to the fixed-wing aircraft.

On departure you will see Long Island (where the Batavia Mutineers were hanged), Beacon Island where many of the mutineers' victims were buried and the Batavia wreck site overflying the Geelvink channel before returning to Geraldton.

Scenic flight out to the islands was fantastic, snorkelling was amazing and surprisingly the water was warm in the middle of winter. Recommend this trip to everyone. Even if you do not like snorkelling there is still plenty of walks to do and birdlife to see.

I highly recommend the Abrolhos Islands Shipwreck air and land tour because it was a once in a lifetime experience. Seeing the islands from the air was amazing. The pilot was a great tour guide and put in a lot of effort so we could see the sharks, dolphins and rays. The beach was beautiful and we went for a snorkel and saw plenty of fish, such as snapper and grouper along the coral reefs. We went for a walk around the island and saw some of the wildlife. They provided a good morning tea upon landing and rolls for lunch. It was a very relaxing day and I would pay the money to go again.

Weather wasn't the best as it was cloudy with poor visibility. Good flight although a very small plane so noisy, squashy and unable to hear the pilot as headsets not working. Good food provided. Saw lots of fish while snorkelling. Recommend BYO snorkelling equipment. Wonderful on the Island and seeing wallabies, lizards and birds. Pilot/tour guide informative and accommodating.
