Discover the wonders of Meteora on this extraordinary full-day trip from Thessaloniki. Enjoy a scenic train/bus ride to Kalabaka with included round-trip tickets and taste local flavors during an optional lunch at a local restaurant.

Make your way to Thessaloniki’s railway station and catch the 07:04 train to Kalambaka using the e-tickets that you will receive via email. Embark on a scenic train ride through the Greek countryside and admire the beautiful landscapes.

Stop At: Paleofarsalos, Palaeofarsalos, Farsala 403 00, Greece

At approximately 09:07, the train will make a stop at Paleofarsalos, where you should exit in order to catch the connecting bus that will continue the trip to Kalambaka departing at 11:00. While waiting for the bus departure, feel free to grab some snacks, enjoy a coffee from the train station’s kiosk, or indulge in a good book to pass the time.

Stop At: Meteora, Meteora, Trikala Region, Thessaly

At 12:45 arrive at Kalambaka’s train station, where your tour guide will be waiting for you, holding a signboard with your name. Board our minibus and begin your unforgettable journey to this true wonder called Meteora.

During the guided tour, see all six of Meteora's monasteries and admire the interior of three of them. View some of Meteora’s most spectacular hidden gems like the ancient Chapel of Doupiani and the magnificent St. George Madilas cave.

Also discover the “other side” of Meteora as you explore. Learn the truth about why the hermits settled in these imposing caves a thousand years ago and how the monks achieved the impossible.

The Monastery of Great Meteoron or Transfiguration of Christ, expresses the greatness and history of the Holy Meteora, as it is the oldest and most important monastery.

Pass By: Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada), Kalambaka Greece

The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is the third oldest monastery in Meteora and is the most difficult to reach, since the visitor has to cross a downhill path and then ascend 145 steps carved into the rock. It is said that at the time when the monks used a rope ladder and a net, they spent 70 years to carry the materials and build the monastery!



Pass By: Agios Stefanos, Kalambaka Greece

The Monastery of Saint Stephen’s is located just above the city of Kalampaka and is the most accessible monastery in Meteora, as there are no steps to reach the entrance and the access is easy through a small stone bridge.



Pass By: Varlaam Monastery, Kalambaka Greece

The Varlaam Monastery or Monastery of All the Saints is located on an imposing rock exactly opposite of the Great Meteoron and it is the second largest monastery.



Stop At: Saint Nicholas Monastery, Kalambaka Greece

The Monastery of Saint Nicholas of Anapafsas is literally suspended in air on a small rock and is the first monastery that we meet on our way from Kastraki village to the stone forest of Holy Meteora.

You will arrive in Thessaloniki at around 22:19.

Stop At: Roussanou Monastery, Kalambaka Greece

The Roussanou Monastery, also known as Arsani, stands on top of an impressive vertical and steep cliff of Meteora, between the Monasteries of Saint Nicholas Anapafsas and Varlaam.



Duration: 1 hour

Pass By: Kalambaka, Kalambaka, Trikala Region, Thessaly

Afterwards, get transferred back to Kalabaka’s train station or at a nearby local restaurant if the optional lunch is selected. Enjoy approximately an hour of free time to have lunch or explore Kalabaka on foot before catching the 17:20 bus back to Thessaloniki.

At approximately 19:05, the bus will make a stop at Paleofarsalos, where you should exit in order to catch the connecting train that will continue the trip to Thessaloniki departing at 20:46. Arrive back in Thessaloniki at 22:51.
