Abruzzo Traditional Pasta Making with 83y old local Grandma
  • Abruzzo Traditional Pasta Making with 83y old local Grandma

I grew up at my Nonna's house in a village nearby Teramo in the Abruzzo region. I grew up with the sound of the pasta making machine and the smell of her superb tomatoes sauce. I used to hide under the table and steal the row pasta...that's where my passion for food started.

The passion for food and people took me to found ExperienceBellaVita.com, a company that promotes sustainable tourism experiences in the less touristic areas of Italy, in Abruzzo.

    One of the 5* Reviews
"We had a fantastic time with Marino and his Nonna Amina. We made it all from scratch and it was a lot of fun, not to mention absolutely delicious. Doing it at his home with his family made for a really memorable experience for us, because when travelling it's those local connections that make it extra special."

This is not a simple pasta making class. We are going to make from scratch, the traditional pasta from Teramo, called 'pasta alla chitarra'.
Very few people still make it following the tradition, with this old wooden tool called 'chitarra'. Restaurants and housewives nowadays make it with the pasta machine, but you will experience with your senses that it's a totally different story making it completely by hand! Your life will change when you will learn why is important to make it by hand, and how to make it home under 20m time.

During the experience I and Nonna we will show you and keep alive this 400y old pasta making tradition, for then savouring our delicious results together in our family.

After collecting the eggs & tomatoes from our little farm, Nonna Amina will share with you all the secrets for making the best tomatoes sauce on earth, so that once back home you can take with you a piece of Abruzzo and impress your friends and loved ones.

With the two of us together, You will learn all the secrets recipes my nonna keeps within the family for generations. Together we will share a typical day of a family from southern Italy.

During our recent stay in Abruzzo, some friends and I had a chance to join Marino and his nonna near Teramo. We had a wonderful experience making pasta, trying local products, learning more about the region and of course enjoying the incredible Chitarra con Pallottine that we helped make using traditional methods. Marino was flexible in organizing the time and easy to communicate with. During the meal, Marino's mother and father joined us, and it truly felt like having a meal with family friends. We were introduced to many of the local products and Marino even had some available for us to buy and take home. This is a great experience for friends as well as families with children. Marino offers many other experiences and we will definitely be getting in touch with him again when we return to Abruzzo in October. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone!!
