Stop At: Pemba Flying Fox Forest, Wete Tanzania
Morning after breakfast pick up from your hotel for the full day trip to the north of Pemba for visiting flying fox forest. The Pemba flying fox is very social and has been found in large colonies until recently. The Pemba flying fox is found only on Pemba Island Tanzania. The island was originally forested, but only remnants of the primary forest remain. Estimates of the status of the Pemba flying fox have varied considerably recently. Most flying foxes eat fruit and are also called fruit bats. Fruit bats are ecologically and economically important because they pollinate and disperse the seeds of wild and commercial plants. Pemba Island is home to 4 species of Old World fruit bats (Megachiroptera).
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Ngezi Forest Reserve, North of the Island above Konde town Tanzania
On the way to Vumawimbi beach we will visit Ngezi forest, Ngezi is one of the last remaining areas of primary forest that once covered western Pemba. It’s notable in that it resembles the highland rainforests of East Africa more than the lowland forests found on Zanzibar. Ngezi is home to the Pemba Flying Fox, a bat endemic to the island.
Duration: 2 hours
Stop At: Vumawimbi Beach, Tanzania
We will end our day by visiting Vumawimbi Beach which is located on the east side of the Ngezi peninsula. A cooler box of fruits, box lunch and refreshments are brought along or we will get delicious seafood lunch at Manta Resort. This is a 15-minute boat ride from the Vumawimbi beach on the most northern point of Pemba Island. Vumawimbi beach is one of the most stunning stretches of white sand beach on the Zanzibar archipelago, and it's entirely free of hotels and tourism development. It’s a pretty isolated spot, so bring some company and finish off your day with a secret picnic and enjoy some idyllic views that are pretty close to heaven. For now, it remains a gloriously local beach, with most traffic children or oxcarts.
