Atacama to Tierra del Fuego. Also in the Juan Fernandez Islands.
HABITAT:
Fields, meadows and farmland. In gardens, squares and city parks.
DESCRIPTION:
Length: 29 cm.
Brown head; crown and nape dark brown mantle, back and brown wing covers. Throat whitish brown with dark longitudinal stripes. Chest and abdomen whitish somewhat yellowish brown. Primary, secondary and tail blackish. Pico yellow solid. Yellow legs. Eyes dark brown with yellow eyes.
This is one of the best known birds of Chile, dwelt in all the territory from Atacama to Tierra del Fuego and the islands of Juan Fernandez, and from the coast to about 2,000 meters high into the mountains. Very abundant, except in the north, Coquimbo and Atacama, where food is only in the valleys.
Something like the Tench (Mimus thenca), differs in having a heavier body and dark, by the shorter tail and by its characteristic sharp yellow beak.
