HABITAT:
Forested areas at the bottom of the Cordilleras.
DESCRIPTION:
Length: 43 - 47 cms.
Head and back dark olive green. White area surrounding the eye. Upper and lower breast whitish olive green. Abdomen, legs, back and underwings yellow. Center of abdomen orange. Subcaudal yellow-olive. Olive-covered wings. Primary internal blue with gray beard. Olive gray tail. Hooked beak and short dark gray. Pale pink legs
Easily identified by its large size, long tail and the gaudy yellow of abdomen, the Tricahue has the same characteristic of Choroy: gregarious and noisy. The babble of the flock is heard in the distance, either, whether in flight or mimic the branches of trees.
Prefer to nest in caves, ravines, which also uses the bedroom most of the year. Hence, also called parrot Barranqueres. Inside the caves are deep, generally with the zigzag tunnel, where they placed 2 eggs semi-gloss white and quite rounded, with a size of 37 mm. x 31 mm. app
