Similar sex with males slightly larger.
Despite its large size and unremarkable color, it is impossible to confuse with other birds, as it has all the characteristics of the hummingbirds, especially the stand still in the air at any time.
Although he can be found on hillsides and dry when it reaches the breeding season almost always chooses a place as close to the water to build their nest, which stands on top of some horizontal branch of a tree or shrub, especially eucalyptus, poplars or palquis. The nest is fairly small compared to the size of the bird, and when the female lies down on top, protrudes from all sides. More amazing still is when the chicks are growing and everyone is crammed into that small place.
The nest is made of moss or lichen, and lined with soft materials such as wool. The position is between late October and November, putting 2 or sometimes 1 egg, size 21 x 13 mm. app.
